Lady Liberty is a symbol of what the greatest country in the world is founded on: simple principles consisting of justice and equality for all, and that all are created to be equal. In the United States, we are endowed certain rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of our own happiness. We value the freedom that these principles provide us. Freedom allows us to do what we like, to think what we want, to express our opinions openly and without fear, to live the way we want to live.
To those brave men and women who fight every day to allow us to live and think freely, we owe you our deepest gratitude. To be able to live in a country that values freedom above all is an incomparable gift given to a lucky few. Not everybody receives this gift.
Imagine the opposite. Being told what to do; how to think; how to raise your children; what faith you must follow; what lifestyle you must live. There are places in this world where people are forced to live without any freedoms, spending their entire life living according to some other agenda. These people have no choice.
In the United States, we are given a choice. We should be grateful to our founding fathers for using their wisdom in establishing and memorializing our individual rights.
