A foundational principle on which the art of yoga is based upon, is to always get back up when you fall. It is normal and expected that you will fall while performing this ancient system of movement. There are many valuable lessons to be learned from yoga, including poise, balance, coordinating breath to movement, but perhaps the most important is resilience. The philosophy of falling/recovering in yoga can be compared to that of life; it is important to keep moving forward, to get back up, after a failure.
Strengthening the body through stretching, posturing, stillness, and breathing involves work, patience, perseverance, and determination. Finding calmness through these techniques is invigorating and energizing. Avid yogis understand that by building up endurance while mastering their postures, at the same time, they are developing strength of mind, finding fierce.
Finding fierce is an important concept and tool for all. Challenges come in different forms and shapes, and from various directions. Facing challenges with a strong mind allows better decision making and clarity of thought. Remaining calm when confronted with adversity, maintaining composure during difficult situations, not allowing others' opinions or judgments influence your ability to think independently, are all results of finding fierce.
Make this the year to find your fierce. Commit to developing strength physically and mentally. Build your resilience.
