The lazy days of summer are upon us, soaking in the final warmth of the season, escaping to seashores, lake houses, or the ocean, splashing in endless blue waters, we may perhaps even encounter an enchanting mermaid! Consider the journey of the mythical, fearless mermaid; residing in the abundant waters, at times, in calmness, but at other times, amidst turbulence, darkness, and huge marine life. The phrase "swimming with sharks" takes on a whole new meaning for the mermaid!
Depicted as mysterious half human and half animal, mermaids, just like the waters which surround them, are fluid. They navigate gracefully through stormy, choppy, waters, with ease, dwelling in the depths of the unseen, remaining calm, swimming alongside all types of sea life, confronting creatures larger and more powerful. Yet, they appear perpetually peaceful as they face their challenges, never losing their composure, even in the most daunting of circumstances, not knowing what lurks ahead. No fear of a shark attack; they single-handedly manage these beasts when they happen alongside!
Of course, they are mythical, but maybe we can learn from them.
When faced with challenging circumstances, we can choose to manage our crisis by remaining calm, and allowing the turbulence to swirl around us. Instead, if we allow fear to take control over us, this may result in anxiety, depression, loss of focus, appetite, sleep, and poor decision making. Choosing peace and stillness, and by following self care techniques to take care of our mental and physical well-being, particularly in difficult times, allowing for better judgment and thinking. We come through on the other side, fearless, survivors, and wiser.
The mythical mermaid maneuvers through unknown waters, encountering situations much larger than herself. Why not take the mermaid path, and flow through our challenges with grace, not allowing them take over us, but, instead, taking over them, by remaining calm.
