5 Long Island Beach Towns that are Perfect for a Day Trip

5 Long Island Beach Towns that are Perfect for a Day Trip

As much as we love week-long getaways to other states and foreign countries, let’s be real. Vacation time is limited, so taking long periods of time off from work isn’t always an option. Luckily, there are plenty of Long Island beach towns that are great for day trips or extended stays!

5 of the Top Long Island Beach Towns

1. Long Beach

First up on our list of Long Island beach towns is just a short drive away from Elements of Rockville Centre. This South Shore sea haven is home to tons of delicious restaurants and chic bars. Whether you’re looking for seafood, vegan options, fancy cocktails or anything in between, you’ll find it in Long Beach.

Obviously, we didn’t forget the iconic Long Beach boardwalk, which is perfect for both scenic bike rides and leisurely strolls. There’s always something fun happening on or around the boardwalk during the summer, including farmers’ markets, concerts and other festivals.

2. Huntington

With all due respect to our beloved Long Beach, it could be argued that Huntington has a (slightly) better restaurant and bar scene. Some local favorites include:

  • Little Vincent’s – home of the famous cold cheese pizza
  • Besito – Mexican restaurant with incredible margaritas
  • Vauxhall – burgers and beers galore
  • Prime – dockside dining with a menu full of steak, sushi and more
  • Bin 56 Wine Bar – enough wine and tapas pairings to make your head spin

As part of their Summer Arts Festival, you can hear free outdoor musical performances almost every single day of the week in Heckscher Park.

And, of course, there are plenty of beautiful North Shore Huntington beaches that are perfect spots to melt away stress on a lazy day.

3. Ocean Beach

This Fire Island community is just a short ferry ride away from Bay Shore. Its beaches tend to be much less crowded than Robert Moses and Jones Beach, and the Ocean Beach boardwalk offers a serene place to walk around or sit and relax.

On Main Street, there are tons of mom and pop shops and boutiques to explore. There are also plenty of eateries serving freshly caught seafood, baked goods, Italian food and much more.

4. Shelter Island

If you’re willing to make the trip, it’s certainly worth checking out Shelter Island, which is nestled between Long Island’s North and South Forks. There aren’t as many stores or restaurants on Shelter Island as there are in the other towns on this list, but that’s what makes it so great.

Shelter Island is home to the 2,000-acre Mashomack Preserve, which has 12 miles of coastline and plenty of creeks, woodlands and trails to explore. Other than traversing the preserve, common Shelter Island activities include biking, kayaking and checking out the historical society.

5. Montauk

Montauk needs no introduction. From the beach to its numerous restaurants to its legendary lighthouse, there’s never a dull moment in “The End.” The reason we’re including it in this list is because you’re simply doing yourself a disservice by skipping out on Montauk this summer.

Did we forget any of your favorite Long Island beach towns?
