Start in the shower! During these winter months try using a body wash that includes moisturizers and less antibacterial ingredients. Antibacterial can cause skin to dry out quickly; also, try avoiding perfumes and alcohol which can also dry out the skin.
Don’t skip the sunscreen! Usually during the winter months we don’t think about using sunscreen as religiously as we do in the summer, but this shouldn’t be the case! Make sure you lather on the sunscreen; use a moisturizing sunscreen to quench your skin with at least a 30SPF. This will moisturize your skin and still protect your skin from those harmful UVA/UVB rays.
Oil up! Try to find a moisturizer that is oil based. Heavier creams that are oil based seal moister in the skin for a longer period of time; grape seed oil based lotions are our favorite! Adding an oil/sugar scrub to your weekly routine can really soften up your skin! Once a week use a scrub (that is oil based) to get rid of dry, flaky skin to encourage cell turn over and exposing the newer, softer skin.
Stay hydrated! For some reason during the colder months we tend to decrease our H2O intake, big mistake! Staying well hydrated can keep the skin supple and glowing.
Follow these simple steps and your skin will thank you for it!
