Lymphatic Drainage

What is lymph?

  • Waste product

  • White blood cells

  • Bacteria/pathogens,

  • Residual nutrients and proteins.

What is the lymphatic systems job?

  • Cleans and removes waste from interstitial space(space between tissue like the space between skin and muscle)

  • Aids in strengthening immunity

  • Helps the digestive system assimilate fat molecules from food.

Though there are a couple of different styles of lymphatic treatments and/or massage, our therapists are trained in the Vodder method. The Vodder method is the #1 hospital recommended method. It is considered a medical treatment.

Who is NOT eligible to receive Lymphatic massage?

  • Acute illness/fever

  • Major cardiac or vascular conditions

  • Cancer (unless cleared by doctor)

Who may benefit from receiving lymphatic treatment?

  • Mild lymphedema (stages 0-1)

  • General metabolic challenges

  • Chronic fatigue

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Chronic pain

  • Sleeping disorders

  • Myofascial stress/tension

  • General stress and fatigue

  • Mild neuropathy

  • Post-surgical care

  • liposuction/cosmetic procedures

What can a client expect during a full lymphatic drainage treatment?

  • Light pressure as therapist is moving lymph not working muscle

  • Most, if not all, of session will be face up, because about 75%of lymph flows on anterior(front) of body including abdomen

  • Session best fit for 1 hour

Considerations for Lymphatic:

*Client may feel worse before they feel better, depending on how much is stirred up through treatment

* Clients can receive treatment as soon as 3 days later.

*Lymphatic treatments can be incorporated into a regular massage just may not be as effective.

* Lymphatic treatment and deep tissue massage are not suggested together in the same area as it can over-tax a client's system, especially if the client has any underlying conditions especially when affecting heart, liver, kidney and spleen. That being said, if there is a target area for lymphatic drainage, that can be worked to protocol while the rest of the body receives regular massage.

*Must be able to get out and back into compression garments by yourself.

*We can not massage if you have drainage tubes.

*We do not/can not work on BBL’s
