FOCUS ON WELLNESS:
Get the Most from YOUR Massage
As health care costs continue to increase, consumers are looking towards alternative therapies to treat pain and stress. According to the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), adult Americans who received a massage received it for medical or health reasons. However, many clients still have misconceptions about massage and how to make the most of their experience. It’s to be expected – there’s a sense of vulnerability when it comes to getting a massage, and many are reluctant to seek clarification.
Get the most out of your massage by following these simple tips:
-
Be On Time: It will allow you to begin relaxing before your massage starts.
-
Speak up! At restaurants, we’re quick to request dressing on the side. Yet when it comes to receiving a customized massage, many clients hesitate to clearly communicate their goals. Don’t be afraid to tell a massage therapist to spend more time on a certain area, or to alter their pressure to be more gentle or firm.
-
Undress to your comfort level: The client may undress as much, or as little, as he/she likes. Modesty is always accepted.
-
Rehydrate: Even though you’re laying still while receiving a massage, your muscles are being worked and need to recharge. Always drink plenty of water after a massage.
-
Rebook: Massage has its greatest benefits over time. From one session to the next, relaxation deepens as the chronic patterns of stress in the body are addressed and released. The therapeutic effects of massage are cumulative, so the more often you get a massage, the better you will feel and the more quickly your body will respond.
