Spring Forward: Not Just Clocks!

The day we have been waiting for is finally here! Our (hopefully) last cold front has come and gone, and we have REAL spring weather ahead of us! With spring weather comes Daylight Savings: Spring Forward. While it's hard to lose a precious hour of sleep--especially on a Sunday--it is well worth it for the longer daylight hours, the warmer temperatures, and the greener landscapes. Here are some tips to recharge your batteries and revitalize:
Early to Bed, Early to Rise
It isn't just a saying--it really does help keep you on a better schedule and improves your mood. Try going to bed 30 minutes earlier than usual and waking up 30 minutes earlier. While this change is subtle, it will help you start your day off on the right foot.
Stretch in the morning and evening
Taking an extra five minutes after waking up to stretch before hopping out of bed makes a huge difference. We are so accustomed to hearing our alarm and jumping out of bed to start our day hurried and frantic. Taking a few moments to stretch and mentally prepare for the day will help you be more calm and collected throughout your day.
A balanced diet goes a long way with how you feel throughout the day. Eating appropriate portions, enough servings of fruits and vegetables, and plenty of water plays a big part in your mood. The classic saying is to have 8 8-oz glasses of water per day, but that's an average. The best way to know how much to drink is to take your weight in pounds, divide it in half, and that is how many ounces you should drink. So, if you weigh 160lbs, you should be drinking 80 ounces of water, or 10 glasses.
Take Care of your Body
Taking steps to care for your body is important. Whether it's getting enough exercise, drinking enough water, slowing down if you're feeling ill or are injured, or getting massage to help relax your muscles, it's a crucial part of life! Make sure to take time for yourself in order to be the best "you" you can be!
