What makes Donna’s massage unique?
“My ability to be “in tune” with the client and their body. A unique advantage that massage therapists possess is knowing where the client feels the pain may not necessarily be the cause of the pain. Understanding the surrounding muscles and their functions is a large part of making a client’s massage successful. For example: Many clients experience neck & shoulder pain from sitting in front of a computer for long periods of time or from driving. One of the culprits that contribute to this pain is shortened pectoral muscles; more commonly referred to as “the pecs”. Your pec muscles actually become conditioned to be shorter as they adapt to poor posture. This then causes rounding of the back, as the tight muscles pull your shoulders and scapula forward and apart. Like a domino effect, your head now comes forward also which causes increased rounding of the back and increased pain. Educating my clients on these muscle groups and why it’s important to make them part of the massage is what makes any massage unique.”
What drives her passion for massage?
“Helping people feel better both mentally and physically by achieving a higher level of wellness through therapeutic touch, is what keeps me passionate about massage therapy. I have been in the customer service and medical industry for 30+ years and I can “relate” to my clients. I’ve been there. I’ve sat in front of a computer for 8 to 10 hours a day or more. I’ve worked in very demanding and high stress environments. I know firsthand what that pain feels like in the neck, shoulder and back area or how debilitating a stress headache can become. I chose to be a massage therapist because I want to make a difference in someone’s life! The level of gratification at the end of my client’s session when they express how amazing they feel and to actually see the relief on their faces, is immeasurable!”
“Donna did a great job with my left shoulder, where I’ve been fighting pain for some time. The shoulder felt a bit achy as Donna was predicting but 2 days later it feels a lot better and my movement is less constraint.”
