Massage is about relaxation and healing, and to achieve these goals you need good communication.
There are so many aspects of a massage that can be adjusted to make your experience more enjoyable it seems silly not to speak up when the light is too bright, or the pressure is too deep. Yet many clients still are hesitant to speak up because the therapist 'knows what they are doing' or they 'like it to hurt good.'
The massage therapist you choose should have been trained in various techniques to help your body to heal but you are the one living in that body and only you know how it feels. Massage can be quite intense, especially the more therapeutic kinds, but no massage should be painful! Pain is a really good indicator of damage being done to the tissues; which is the exact opposite of what we are hoping to accomplish during your massage session.
If you notice yourself struggling to relax when getting a massage speak up! If you have a good therapist they will have no problem adjusting to fit your needs.
