Getting into Meditation

Getting into Meditation

Elements Massage Central Scottsdale

Now that we’ve made it into February, how are your New Year’s Resolutions holding up? Didn’t make any or fell by the wayside? Well, at Elements Massage Central Scottsdale, we invite you to take a breather. A meditation breather that is.

Recently, more Americans are turning to the many benefits of meditation as a way to improve their physical and mental health. With a rash of meditation apps on the market including Headspace and Calm, it’s no wonder that many individuals are finding it easier to get into meditation mode daily.

As a tool to develop awareness and mindfulness, here’s how to start a meditation practice:

Start Slow
Begin by setting aside a period of time each day to sit quietly in a comfortable space. Start aiming for about ten to fifteen minutes and work up to what your schedule allows. Think of it as starting a new gym routine. In the beginning, work on just paying attention to the body and your breathing without judgement. If you notice your thoughts floating around, gently acknowledge them and return to the breathing. Most beginning meditators are worried that they aren’t doing it right, but instead, frame it less about expectations and concentrate on your experience.

Suss Out Benefits

With the hope to establish a practice that enables you to feel clear-headed, kind and happy, it’s up to you what works. There’s no one way to go about it. The only key is consistency.

From guided visualization techniques to mantra meditations, breathing work to mindfulness practices, there are a wide variety of options available to you. At Elements Massage Central Scottsdale, we encourage you to be curious how you can focus your attention inward on your body, heart, and mind.

Like massage, meditation is all about deliberately paying attention to your body’s sensations and allowing them to release.
