Oncology Massage- easing the discomfort of Cancer.
Angela K, LMT Apr 3, 2016
When receiving a massage during or after cancer treatment, one of the most important aspects is the comfort and safety of the client. Light massage can be given to people at all stages of cancer but if you have any questions or concerns, talk with your doctor first.
While massage doesn’t treat the cancer itself, it may help reduce the side effects caused by conventional treatments and improve the quality of life and wellbeing: such as, relaxation, rebuilding hope, feeling more positive of your body and being able to share feelings in an informal setting.
Studies have shown that Oncology Massage can help with pain, fatigue, nausea, anxiety and depression. As well as, range of motion improvements and the health of scar tissue.
Being diagnosed with cancer can bring up an array of emotions that change from day to day and sometimes from hour to hour. Feeling comfortable enough to receive massage during or after treatment is a huge decision too. But here at Elements we customize each massage for each session. So even if you only feel comfortable today with having your hands or feet massaged and not a full body massage, you can!
Elements West Allis features therapists trained in Oncology Massage techniques. Please call 414.455.2715 today to request an appointment. Please note it is suggested to wait up to 72 hrs. following Chemotherapy treatment to have a massage.
