No one wants to get sick but as the weather changes and the days get shorter, the season’s cold and flu illnesses start making the rounds. First, it’s your coworker, then it’s your kids.

To help ward off germs, here are a few different ways to boost your immune system and give yourself the best chance at steering clear of sickness this year:

  • Handwashing
    Yes, it’s simple enough but did you know that most people don’t wash their hands correctly? Soap and water along with vigorous rubbing for 20 to 30 seconds (about as long as it takes to sing Happy Birthday to yourself twice!) with extra attention in between your fingers and under your nails is key. The temperature of the water is irrelevant!
     
  • Healthy Lifestyle
    Taking care of yourself by regularly exercising, eating nutritious foods and sleeping enough can go a long way in maintaining a properly functioning immune system capable of keeping germs at bay.
     
  • Maintain Cleanliness
    Keeping your home and desk area clean is also a great way to keep germs away. Be sure to regularly sanitize doorknobs and light switches. Make it a habit!
     
  • Stay Hydrated
    Drinking enough water can help you not only stay healthy but can encourage you to feel your best. Instead of reaching for that extra cup of coffee or another soda, swap out your beverage for good old water.
     
  • Massage
    Last but not least, massage is an excellent way to not only relax but to deliver benefits to your immune system. Through the application of pressure and touch, massage can increase circulation and boost your body’s level of white blood cells which work to combat viruses.
