If you want to set a healthy goal, where do you start? Well, at Elements Massage Scottsdale North, we encourage you to take moment to take stock of where you currently are at in order to establish a baseline. How else will you be able to measure your progress?
Before we get ahead of ourselves into planning actual goals, let’s explore how to know where you are in regards to your current health status.
- Body Mass Index (BMI)
While what the scale reads doesn’t necessarily mean anything, it can give you important information about your health. To calculate your BMI, you’ll need to first weigh yourself in addition to knowing your height. Visit here for help.
- Blood Information
Now it’s time to collect data like cholesterol (including LDL and HDL), blood pressure, and blood sugar. The average healthy adult’s blood pressure is approximately 120/80, total cholesterol is less than 200 mg/DL, and blood sugar is less than 100 mg/dl. You may need to consult with your doctor or check recent blood panels to collect this information.
- Averaging Exercise
Maybe you opt for less frequent activities for longer periods of time, or perhaps you prefer the high intensity interval training (HIIT) that squeezes in a ten minute workout. Here add up your exercise and figure out how much you are actually doing. Healthy adults should aim for at least 2-3 hours of moderate activity levels a week.
- Diet and Sleep
The next two factors to examine are nutritional habits and quality and amount of sleep. Track for a week or two everything that you ingest and also what your bedtime routine is. Note how many hours you sleep on average and how many you’d like to sleep.
By taking stock of your current habits, this provides a platform for change to occur on top of. You are more likely to stick to your goals when motivated and being able to know exactly where you are can help you get to exactly where you want to go.
