5 Healthy Teas and their Benefits for the Cold Months

5 Healthy Teas and their Benefits for the Cold Months

With the chilly fall and winter months approaching, we’re ready to settle into sweater weather and cozy up with some tasty, healthy teas here at Elements of Rockville Centre. Here are some of our favorite true and herbal teas that have great health benefits in addition to flavors.

5 Awesome Healthy Teas

1. Green Tea

No list of healthy teas is complete without mentioning green tea. Green tea is a true tea, meaning it’s derived from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant.

One of the most popular teas around, green tea has a ton of exciting benefits:

  • Improves blood flow
  • Lowers bad cholesterol
  • Prevents heart-related conditions
  • Helps your working memory
  • Stabilizes blood sugar

Unfortunately, there’s no conclusive research that proves green tea itself aids in weight loss. However, it does contain an antioxidant called EGCG, which helps boost your metabolism. You’ll have to maintain a healthy diet as well in order to see any real weight loss results from green tea.

2. Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea is an herbal tea that comes from ground chamomile flowers of either the Roman or German variety.

It is best known for its calming effects, which makes it great for drinking before bedtime to regulate sleep patterns and prevent insomnia. However, chamomile tea is also great for your skin and digestive system.

3. Hibiscus Tea

Hibiscus tea is a deep magenta or ruby red color, and is made from the flower of the hibiscus plant. It has a sour, fruity taste, similar to cranberries.

This tea has many benefits, including:

  • High antioxidant levels
  • Improves blood health
  • Could prevent cancer
  • Regulates metabolism

Try flavoring it with honey or hint of lime to balance the tart flavor.

4. Rooibos Tea

Rooibos tea is an herbal tea that is made from the Rooibos plant, a shrub with soft, red needle-like leaves that is indigenous to South Africa. It’s caffeine free and has an earthy, vanilla flavor.

This herbal tea is packed with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, perfect for the cold weather we’re soon going to be facing. In addition, it’s great for skin, hair and bones.

5. Lemon Verbena Tea

Lemon verbena, a perennial shrub that has a strong, citrusy scent and flavor, makes for one super tasty, healthy tea. It’s also a great essential oil!

Similar to green tea, it can aid in weight loss by speeding up metabolic processes, as long as the rest of your diet is healthy as well. In addition, lemon verbena tea is a huge immune booster, providing a large increase in white blood cell levels, our body’s first line of defense against infections.

We absolutely love our healthy teas at Elements of Rockville Centre, so please feel free to share your favorites with us. We’d love to give them a try.
