How to Prepare for a Massage
Elements Massage Piney Creek Oct 21, 2015
Before you head into the studio, there are a few things you can do to best prepare your mind and body to maximize the effects of your massage. Here’s how you can help set yourself up for success and what to expect in terms of preparation for a relaxing massage session.
- Go In Clean
The relaxing environment of our studio is created to help you take a mind and body break from the daily stressors of life. We recommend that you take a warm shower before coming in to help loosen your muscles and prepare your body but also to enable a more pleasant and relaxing experience for you and your massage therapist. If you come in fresh off of a trail, you may detract from your massage by worrying about being stinky the whole time!
- The Importance of Hydration
Drinking water is something to be done before and after your massage. Beforehand, it can help your muscles prepare for the application of pressure and movement and afterwards, is a great way to facilitate a quicker removal of toxins that are released into your body after a session.
- Health History
Another thing to organize is your health history. Your massage therapist will want to know about your general health including any medical conditions, specific areas of concern, any recent injuries, level of pain and tolerance, and additional information that will inform how they handle your massage.
- Get Comfortable
Wearing comfortable and lose fitting clothes will help set the stage for a relaxing massage. During your session, it’s entirely up to you as to what state of undress you’d like to be in. After a relaxing massage, no one wants to squeeze himself or herself back into restrictive clothing so instead plan ahead and go comfortable!
