Interview with Iliana Granados , Elements Pinecrest New Manager
Oct 7, 2015
Why did you choose to become a Massage Therapist?
I chose massage therapy because my mother suffered from migraine headaches growing up. Often, her only relief was from massage. I remember massing her for countless hours in her dark bedroom. I quickly learned innately where several pressure points were and discovered I was able to alleviate her pain and discomfort.
Philosophy of healing:
With so much of our lives spent rushing here and there, it is rare when we allow our bodies and mind to relax and be totally in the present. I believe that decreasing stress through relaxation from therapeutic touch allows us to get grounded, to feel refreshed, and have mental clarity.
Why are massages important for people?
There are outstanding benefits from regular massage therapy from a Licensed Massage Therapist. Whether you need a moment of relaxation, or you want to reduce muscle tension or manage relief from chronic pain, a therapeutic massage can enhance your overall sense of emotional and physical well-being. Massage relieves pain by reducing muscle tension and also by triggering the release of endorphins, natural pain relieving chemicals in the brain. Most importantly, Massage Therapy can also be used as part of a preventative care program from ongoing stress management, sports training, and injury prevention.
Where did you work before joining elements?
Before Elements, I had the privilege of being a stay at home mom raising my beautiful daughter. Before that, much of my massage experience was in luxury spa management. I was the spa director at The Aveda Spa at the Palms Hotel and Spa on Miami Beach and held several spa management rolls at ESPA Spa by Acqualina Resort & Spa on the Beach in Sunny Isles. I worked as a massage therapist at the Mandarin Oriental on Brickell Key.
Why did you Join Elements and what do you like about it?
I joined Elements because I believe in the power of therapeutic, healing massage. Elements offers a peaceful, professional, clean, friendly, respectful, team-oriented and client focused environment. I really like that the singular focus is on massage and you are carefully paired with the right client to encourage lasting professional relationships. Oh, and did I mention we receive a complementary monthly massage?
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I have been an avid runner for years. I have run 4 full marathons, and over 25 half marathons. One of my favorite races is called Ragnar Relay from Key Biscayne to Key West. 196.5 miles, 12 runners, 2 vans, day and night, relay-style. Only one runner hits the road at a time and each participant runs three times. It’s a blast!
Random facts about me:
Standing in long lines or sitting in traffic does not bother me, I don’t have a middle name, I’m obsessed with anything Hello Kitty, I plan on being one of those cheesy people to hold a sign up at Rockefeller Center in the Today Show audience try to get Matt Lauer’s attention, Musically- I have a diverse range from Hard Rock to 80’s News Wave to Reggaeton, I prefer 7-Eleven coffee to Starbucks, and I am enjoying getting older, stronger, wiser, & most importantly – always staying true to who I am.
