The Importance of Hydration for Massage

Elements Massage Ken Caryl Aug 20, 2015

Drinking enough water is key in helping you feel your best. Oftentimes it can be difficult to put down the coffee, tea, or soda and just reach for regular H20 but getting enough water boasts a wide range of health benefits that can optimize your mind and body. At Elements Ken Caryl, we strive to help you take the best care of yourself and staying hydrating is one way that you can improve your state of being. Not to mention, it’s a critical component for maximizing the benefits of massage!

Before or after a massage session, water is especially important for taking care of your body to receive and recover from the bodywork performed by one of our talented massage therapists.

Here are a few other ways water plays into your body functions:

-Muscle Tissues

When properly hydrated, your muscle tissues are more elastic which allows for a more effective and in depth massage. The flexibility and pliability of your muscles allows the movements of massage to be received better and facilitates the release of toxins to help you feel your best and stay limber.

-Circulatory System

As a way to boost the function of your circulatory system, massage can help improve your immune system. Drinking enough water is a great way to enhance this stimulation, which can leave you feeling more, energized, able to focus, and less fatigued.

-Elimination

Another key role drinking enough water has on your body is that it helps in efficient elimination of bodily toxins and build-ups in your system. Drinking water can help keep your body functions working smoothly!
When receiving a massage, being hydrated can help set the stage for a deep treatment that can leave you feeling relaxed and reset. It’s also important to drink plenty of water post-massage to encourage the removal of toxins that have been released with the pressure and application of a massage and to help facilitate a quick recovery of your muscles.

A good rule of thumb is to drink approximately half of your body weight in ounces each day! Give it a try the next time you have an appointment on the books with us and see if you can feel the difference!
