Instead of waiting for the new year for resolutions, why not seize today and do things that can improve your health now? Don’t get us wrong, we love resolutions and we’ll be making some good ones for 2019, but there are a few things you can do right now that can help you live a healthier, more present life. So why delay?
Here are a few easy steps you can take to boost your health game:
- Go Outdoors
Today’s workplace environments don’t offer the type of mental respite humans need to deeply reset. To counter the regular office grind, we recommend going outside and taking a brief technology break. Don’t just sit, stare at a spreadsheet, and toggle back and forth between social media for connections. Instead, stand up and head outside for a brisk ten-minute walk to get a little fresh air and sunshine.
- Eat Better
We know, you know. Heck, we even know and sometimes don’t do it. But nourishing your brain and body with the right type of food can make a world of difference in how you feel. A healthy breakfast with protein is an excellent way to start off each day. Instead of reaching for packaged foods, try as much as possible to opt for whole foods like fruit, veggies, proteins, and healthy fats.
- Sleep More
Turn off Netflix and go to sleep. It seems easier said than done, but until it’s your new habit, nothing is going to change. The average American sleeps less than six hours a night. And that’s not enough! To make a change in this arena, try moving up your bedtime by 30 minutes a week. Yes, this may mean less screen time, but we promise you, it’ll pay off.
- More H2O
The next easy task to tackle is to drink more water. If you work at an office surrounding by sodas and coffee, try and swap out that afternoon beverage with an extra bottle of water or two. Hydration is critical to enabling your mind and body to function best and drinking enough water can help you have more energy, sleep better, and stabilize your mood.
