Since it’s National Emotional Wellness Month, our Elements Tower and Hampden studio would like to draw your attention to the importance of a strong mind and body connection. Most of the time we see more stock given to physical exercise and routines, neglecting the fact that emotional and spiritual health can play a major role in how you look and feel. As we approach National Emotional Wellness Month, we thought it would be beneficial to our readers to explore a few positive practices and how you can incorporate them into your daily lives in order to boost your own emotional wellness.
Being an emotionally well person means that you are able to pay attention to your own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and examine or explore them in constructive ways. Self-knowledge and acceptance play huge roles in allowing yourself to remain open and positive when confronted with life’s many obstacles. Similar to how your body needs exercise to function best, your mental self also needs stimulation to perform. To help promote your own emotional wellness, here are a few handy tips:
Take five minutes out of the day to stop and reflect on the recent events in your life and how you responded. How do you balance work and other obligations? Do you handle stress in a positive way or can you make changes to alleviate and reduce your stress levels?
Another great moment to examine your state of mind is when working on your breathing. Draw in ten deep breathes through your nose and exhale through your mouth slowly. This can help clear your mind and enable you to focus on things in the present.
-Do Something Just for You
This isn’t an excuse to buy an expensive new pair of shoes! Doing something that’s just for you is a great reminder that you matter. It doesn’t have to be complicated and it doesn’t have to be material-based. Several suggestions are to take an evening walk, enjoy a cup of coffee at a coffee shop, get a massage, or try a new experience!
-Feed Yourself Well
Similar to the above, nurturing your mind also means nurturing your body. One way to do this is through feeding yourself well. From healthy vegetables and grains, to drinking plenty of water, make sure that you feel good about the food related decisions that you make.
Finding time to relax and relish in the moment is a big part of participating in your own life. If your stress levels spiral out of control and you never pause to check in with yourself about changes you can make, you won’t yield positive results. This month, Elements Tower and Hampden invites you to get empowered and take care of you!
