Scottsdale, Arizona – Yes, we are talking about stress again. Stress seems to be unavoidable in our daily lives – the key is managing it. Did you know that men and women have different attitudes about and responses to stress? According to the American Psychological Association’s 2011 Stress in America Survey, women report higher levels of stress than men and feel more of a need to manage stress. Women also say that they aren’t doing enough to reduce their stress levels.
The good news is that women are more likely to use a variety of approaches to lowering their stress levels. Where 14% of women will get a massage or visit a spa, only 5% of men report doing the same. Women also turn to reading, praying and religious services, shopping, spending time with friends or family and seeing a mental health professional to manage their stress. Men are more likely to exercise as a response to stress.
Of course we think that massage is an important part of a stress management plan, especially for women. Massage is a great way to boost your mood and rejuvenate your spirit, as well as taking advantage of physical benefits. Studies show that massage decreases the levels of stress hormones in the blood and increases white blood cells, which indicate a strengthened immune system. The findings of the study indicate that massage may be effective in treating auto immune and inflammatory conditions.
That’s why we’re combining a few great stress reduction strategies in our upcoming Girls’ Therapeutic Night Out.
