Weekends are the time for charity golf tournaments, pick-up volleyball games, or spending hours in the pool. But these hours of fun can leave you feeling stiff and sore the following Monday. One reason you may feel this way is simple: your body is no longer capable of functioning the same way it did when you were a teenager or young adult. Now, age is just a number and has no impact on how fun you are or whether or not you’re a good person. But it can impact the way your body performs physical tasks. Things like having children and full time jobs can affect sleep patterns and lifestyles in a big way.
Regardless of fitness level, it is important that you take care of your muscles before and after activity. Make sure you’re warming up to avoid shocking your body with intense physical activity, and following that warm up with active, dynamic stretches to prepare your body for the work out ahead. When you’re done playing golf or even taking your dog for a walk, reward your body with some water to help it replenish any that was lost. You don’t need to stay in on the weekends just because you’re supposed to be a responsible adult, but you do need to make sure that you’re taking care of your body when you decide to venture outside!
