In our fast-paced world, it’s hard to remember to make time to connect with yourself. But if you don’t, how do you sustain a pace that enables you to give your talents to your family and your community. To keep your energy and creativity levels full requires replenishing.
Here, at Elements Massage Scottsdale South, we believe that one of the best ways to do just that is to set aside time to care just for you. While this may sound simple, it’s not necessarily easy. First, you have to figure out how to nurture yourself. Second, you have to make doing so a priority. This may mean saying no to someone that asks you to volunteer or donate or host.
If you need a boost, here are three critical steps to connect better with yourself:
- Every day, set aside a chunk of time from five minutes to half an hour where you find a quiet place, settle into your sensory awareness and just breathe. During this time, concentrate on what it feels like to breathe normally. Can you follow your breath in and out without it hitching anywhere? Do you notice any certain areas where breathing is especially difficult or feels really good? You don’t have to change your natural pattern of breath, just notice it.
- Next move into your spine. How is your posture? Are you aware of your body mechanics at work? Ask yourself how you could be nice to yourself today. Whether booking a massage, having a warm cup of tea to soothe your body, relaxing and reading for a brief period while unplugging from technology...You’ll have to find out what works best for you.
- Now bring yourself to curiosity. What are you feeling? How can you listen more to the tune of your own mind and body? Do you have love and compassion for yourself like you do for others? A quiet period of reflection can really show you how to better care for yourself. If ideas arise during this quiet time, make a note and take action on them.
Self-care is a lifelong journey but giving it space and time every day can cultivate an immensely rich and rewarding relationship.
