As most of our readers know, we here at Elements Therapeutic Massage of Northport have only had our doors opened for about three months. We thoroughly enjoy meeting new guests; those who are massage experts and new to massage as well. There is a first time for everything, and we are here to help you understand a little more about how massage therapy works, what to expect, and to break a few of those “massage therapy myths” floating around.
Q: What will my massage be like, and what can I expect when I walk in the door?
A: At Elements Therapeutic Massage of Northport, we are here to help our guests feel better, mentally and physically. With a soothing waterfall that draws you in and a fireplace that warms you up, our studio was made to be a home away from home. Initially, you will be greeted by one of our service specialists who are here to help you settle in, and prepare you for your massage. Then you will be introduced to your therapist, a therapist who is chosen specifically to meet your individual needs. From there, you will be escorted to your session room, where the massage is all about you. We encourage you to communicate with your therapist, because each massage we offer is customized to your liking. Our goal here at Elements is for you to enjoy your massage, and know that it was done not generically, but with you in mind.
Q: Will I have to remove all of my clothes? I have never had a massage before so I’m unsure of what to do.
A: Massage therapy is meant to make you relaxed, which means, you have to be comfortable. We encourage all of our guests to undress to their particular level of comfort. When you are being massaged, you are in a low-lit room with soothing music, and the therapist will only uncover the area they are working on – the rest of your body is covered by a warm blanket and resting on our heated table (should you want your table heated, that is. But with this cold weather outside, who wouldn’t!)
Q: How does the couple’s room work? Is there only one therapist who moves back and forth in between massages? Will I have to massage my spouse?
A: We have a lovely couple’s room with an ambiance made ever so inviting, however the only difference is that in this room, there are two heated tables and two therapists instead of one. Which means the two of you will receive a massage, not give one!
Q: I’m 16 weeks pregnant and my sister told me I can’t be massaged, and I could really use one. Is this true?
A: On the contrary, we encourage you to come in! We have licensed therapists here who specialize in prenatal massage. As long as you have reached your second trimester (at least 12 weeks pregnant) then you are definitely welcome! Our prenatal massages will not only help you to relax and relieve stress, but is also proven to reduce swelling, aches and pains associated with pregnancy.
Q: If I’m not thirsty it’s not important to drink water after being massaged, am I right?
A: Water is always important, however after your massage with us, you will receive a bottle of water. It’s very important to try and drink it all, and it’s not just about keeping hydrated. Massage increases your body’s circulation, and water helps to flush the toxins out that are released from your massage.
Q: What exactly is it that makes massage so important?
A: Not only does regular massage help you to relax and make you feel rejuvenated, it can relieve pain, tension and tightness in the body. It is also proven to lower blood pressure, strengthen the immune system and improve circulation!
These are just a few of the questions that we face every day at Elements Therapeutic Massage of Northport; however we always strive to help our guests. Next time you stop in, feel free to bring with you any massage questions you need answered, we’d love to help. We look forward to seeing you!
