What to Expect from an Elements Massage
Oct 18, 2016
The health benefits of massage therapy have been shown through research many times over. Massage reduces stress, improves heart health and sleep quality, and lowers anxiety. But it’s one thing to read about massage in a study and another to actually go to an appointment, especially if you’ve never had a massage before. It can be a little nerve-wracking to walk into a studio if you don’t know what to expect. While each experience at Elements Massage Mesa Riverview is unique to every client, there are a few common practices that guarantee every massage is a great one.
If it’s your first time at Elements Massage Mesa Riverview, there will be a little bit of paperwork to fill out before your appointment can begin. We recommend that you arrive a few minutes before your scheduled time in order to complete the process. The form will ask you about basic medical and health information that will allow your therapist to customize your massage experience according to your needs. After, your therapist will take you back to their studio room and ask any clarification questions based they may have. In part, these questions will be about areas you would like to focus on during your appointment, as well as the pressure levels you feel comfortable with for the massage. Keep in mind that giving your therapist as much information as you can will lead to a better experience – the more they know, the better they will be able to help you reach your therapeutic goals! Before the massage begins, they will leave you to undress to your level of comfort and lie down on the table. From there, it’s just a matter of relaxing and enjoying your massage!
At the end of the session, the therapist will give you some specific, concrete feedback, such as which areas you were carrying the most tension in, if there are stretches you can do to help those areas in between appointments, and suggest a plan of treatment for future appointments. At Elements Mesa Riverview, we believe in the restorative power of massage, and that each person’s healing experience will be different. With massage specialists who practice active listening and responsiveness, each client’s experience is individual and the best possible one we can provide every single time.
