While lower leg muscle cramps in your calf muscles are considered normal, they can also be painful. Generally attributed to either overexertion or dehydration, a lack of electrolyte balance, leg cramps can hamper your speed (and style). At Elements Massage Glendale, we are all about keeping you comfortable and on the go. If you find yourself frequently experiencing bouts of cramping, here’s what to do:
Stretch
Encourage limberness and increase your range of motion by incorporating at least two periods of ten to fifteen minutes of stretching.
Hydrate
Water is your friend and being properly hydrated actually boosts your body’s functionality on many levels. It can boost your mood, keep your skin healthy and happy, and diminish cramps.
Massage
There’s nothing like a great massage to work out lactic acid leftover in your muscles after activity to reduce the frequency of cramping. Plus, it can also increase your circulation bringing much-needed blood, oxygen, and nutrients to muscles in need.
Move
Another key component in reducing cramps is to not sit all day and get out there and move. Start out easy and work up to a regular exercise routine that feels appropriate for you. Don’t forget to get plenty of rest in between activity to encourage the best recovery.
