Massage and Hydration
It is important to stay hydrated year-round, but especially during the hot summer months when your body is losing more water than it would otherwise, it is vital. Proper and consistent hydration is one of the main keys to feeling and looking your best. It is recommended that you drink at least 8 glasses of clean water per day. Getting enough water aids in sleep quality, weight loss, muscle quality, energy, stress, and more. It is one of the easiest—and simultaneously most neglected—aspects of health and wellness.
And when it comes to getting a massage, hydration is one of the biggest things that slips people’s minds. It is important to drink plenty of water before and after your massage, for several reasons. As a matter of fact, our massage therapists can tell just by touching someone’s muscles if they have been drinking enough water!
Toxins and chemicals have a tendency to be stored by the body in your fat cells. When you get a massage, those fat cells are stimulated and the toxins released can make you fill lightheaded, or just generally ill, for a short period of time, especially if it has been a long time since your last massage. Drinking plenty of water after your massage helps your body to flush out the released toxins rather than storing them in your fat cells again. Hydrated muscles also feel much better to have massaged, so being sure to drink enough water a day or two before your massage will help you feel better and get the most out of it.
