Nicholas | Licensed Massage Therapist
Nicholas sees massage as an expansive art and science, a place where physical and emotional needs interweave. Sometimes a pain manifests more on the physical side, a trigger point that simply needs pressure to melt away; other times, a chronic mood we’re in embodies in muscular tension that seems to find no relief until we cross into that point of: ah, I’m relaxed, I’m safe. The terrain can be complex, and so Nicholas holds a stance of curiosity and exploration in the face of it.
Informed by his ongoing training in Somatic Experiencing, Nicholas recognizes that there are many paths to meeting the needs of his clients, and he is more than happy to collaborate with them to find a massage and flow that is just right. Some of his favorite examples of this from recent memory were starting a massage with a more “sports” approach of body rocking, faster circulation strokes, and tapotement to up-regulate the nervous system, smoothly transitioned towards stiller and stiller Craniosacral work as the client deeply relaxed. Another is when a client noticed that a certain spot on their back, when gently rested upon, was opening them up to experience sadness and grief; at the client’s request, Nicholas softly held at that spot, while the client continued to grieve and release what their body was holding until it felt complete.
Born and raised in Portland, Nicholas received his massage education from the East West College of the Healing Arts. In his experiences visiting other places across America—most recently 6 months in NYC—he’s enjoyed taking in their unique character and culture, but remembers home by the sight of Douglas Firs and crisp air; nowhere else quite soothes his soul.
