This is one of our favorite times of the year. It’s before the onslaught of holiday hubbub and everyone around us is imbued with an excitement about the weather just starting to dip. To stay healthy during this part of the year, however, requires a bit of effort. We are right at the cusp of cold and flu season and no one wants to spend this glorious weather tucked away inside.
To do your best against the germs, here are a few tips for leaning into a healthy self-care routine:
- Handwashing 101
Yes, it’s annoying. Yes, we’re sure you’ve been told the same thing since your own childhood, but it’s still true: good hand washing is the single most effective way to keep yourself healthy and avoid catching a cold or flu virus. If you regularly touch surfaces, take public transportation, use your phone in public, have kids that go to school, this is for pretty much everyone.
Washing your hands means using plenty of soap and hot water. You should lather long enough to sing Happy Birthday to yourself twice before rinsing and towel drying. If possible, try and avoid touching your face around the nose, mouth, and eyes. We also recommend frequently sanitizing doorknobs and surfaces you touch often (hello, smartphone!).
- Sleep More!
If you don’t sleep enough, chances are that you are more prone to catching a virus. This is due to compromised immunity. Lack of sleep can overextend your body which can’t compete with the germs around you. Here, at Elements Massage Goodyear, we strive for a good 8-10 hours a night.
- Regular Massage
Another critical way to boost immunity this season is to visit our studio. Regular massage sessions can minimize your body’s production of the stress hormone, cortisol, while also boosting your circulation of blood and lymph, two key areas that can help remove toxins and deliver needed nutrients so you can function your best
