Deep Tissue Massage
Elements Massage Chandler Village Jul 9, 2015
Deep Tissue massage is a form of massage that focuses on the body’s deep layers and sub-layers of muscles and the connective tissues surrounding these muscles. Through the application of deep pressure and classic strokes used in massage, areas of concentrated pain and tension are addressed and worked through to deliver relief. One of many modality of massage, this delivery is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains from stiff muscles, tightness due to tension, and problems of soreness that limit mobility.
When your body experiences chronic muscle tension or injury, the muscles, tendons, and ligaments can ball up into bands of rigid tissue forming knots and painful spots. These areas can limit movement, cause unwanted inflammation, and interfere with the circulation and oxygenation of your blood. During a Deep Tissue massage, your massage therapist works to break down these adhesions by applying deep direct pressure to help restore normal movement.
Although you should expect slight discomfort during one of these sessions, be sure to inform your massage therapist immediately if you experience more than a manageable amount of pain. Once your massage is over, you can expect to feel slightly sore but this should subside after two days and leave you feeling more limber and free of previous tension.
Benefits from Deep Tissue massage include:
- Relief from osteoarthritis, sciatica, and fibromyalgia pain
- Reduced muscle tension and spasms
- Boost in mobility
- Reduction in chronic pain
- Promotes good posture
- Encourages recovery from strain/injuries
