What You May Not Know About Integrative Reflexology

Aug 30, 2017

integrative reflexology massage healing therapeutic muscles wellness health

Is there anything better than coming in the door after a long day at work, a 5-mile run, or a vigorous day of shopping, and taking your shoes off to put up your feet?  Or splurging on a pedicure?  Or, better yet, being the lucky recipient of a long and leisurely foot massage?  There’s something special about going the extra mile to pamper your feet.  After all, they carry the load, so to speak, for your entire body as you walk down the hall, run after your dog, climb up ladders, saunter down steps, dance to your favorite song, and hike along a tree-lined trail every single day.  And this week we thought it fitting to celebrate our feet since earlier this month was, officially, “I Love My Feet Day.”

At Elements, we know how crucial it is to properly care for the 26 bones, 33 joints, 19 muscles, 107 ligaments (and, we suppose, even the 250,000 sweat glands . . . ew) that make up each foot.  In fact, we spend a lot of time during your massage paying attention to your feet and ankles.  And while this may feel amazing, we actually have a behind-the-scenes set of reasons for why we do.

Through Integrative Reflexology® we incorporate the healing properties of the ancient art of reflexology into your regular massage.  If you’re skeptical and unsure about reflexology and whether it can be helpful to you, here are a few things you may not know:

  • There are specific pressure points on everyone’s feet that are thought to be directly connected to the internal organs via the nervous system.  By manipulating various body parts in this way, many types of pain or other issues can be helped or alleviated.

  • Although reflexology is thought to have originated in ancient China about 5,000 years ago, there is evidence that Egyptians practiced it about 2,330.

  • Reflexology may be able to help symptoms of depression or chronic headaches, reduce stress, increase energy levels, and aid in your body’s removal of toxins.

  • Many people find that reflexology can help dramatically reduce their pain levels.  Reflexologists believe that this healing occurs through eliminating blockages in the body and restoring balance and healthy circulation.

We hope that you really do “love your feet,” as well as every other part that makes you, you.  At Elements Massage we do our best to bring honor and healing to your every part.  And through utilizing Integrative Reflexology® we are able to care for your outer muscles, joints, and tendons, as well as your nervous system and organs as well.  Take a moment this week to really pay attention to how hard your feet work for you.  And maybe make the decision to reward them with an appointment with your Elements massage therapist.  Not only will your Integrative Reflexology® massage feel amazing, but you’ll be doing your part to help make sure that your feet keep on walking you through life for years to come.
