What do you like most about massage? I love the wide range of benefits massage can bring, including, but not limited, to pain reduction, increased range of motion, stress relief, and body detoxification. I also think it's great that while massage is focused on working with the physical body often these benefits ripple out holistically, touching all aspects of someone's being, improving their overall quality of life. It's fantastic that massage achieves these benefits by stimulating the body's inherent self-healing mechanisms without the use of chemicals. Another aspect I enjoy is the sense of connection with clients. Touch is a form of communication, and I strive to really tune in to what the body is telling me it needs and deliver that in the session.
What are your favorite modalities / specialties? Myofascial Release, Deep Tissue, Swedish, Energy Healing
Why do you feel those modalities / specialties are effective? I almost never use just MFR or deep tissue by themselves. When they are combined they provide a much more thorough release of the affected tissues. Swedish strokes tend to be the best tool I have found for those seeking relaxation from the massage. It is also very useful to flush out the body after specific treatment work. Energy healing has many holistic health benefits. By using it to supplement massage work I find the muscles release faster causing less discomfort for you. Past clients have also reported longer lasting results when I incorporate energy work. Another benefit of this technique is it allows me to get a more profound muscle release when working with someone who has high pain sensitivities and requires a lighter pressure. For those interested in the work, it can also provide some insight into possible emotional holding that may be manifesting as physical tension.
Anything special you'd like to share about yourself? Music is a huge piece of my life. I play several instruments, and the experiences and connections I had in a former band indirectly led me to find my calling in healing work. I also love to read, dance, and be outside. I like learning about and pondering the big "who are we and why are we here" type questions in life.
