Survey by Elements Massage Reveals What Activities People Find Relaxing

Aug 13, 2013

Highlands Ranch, Colo. (August 13, 2013) – In light of National Relaxation Day on August 15, Elements Therapeutic Massage set out to discover what activities consumers consider relaxing versus stressful. The company surveyed 180 people over the age of 18 and asked them to rate how relaxing or stressful they found 10 different activities. The results showed that massage was considered the most relaxing activity, while working was most stressful.

The complete ranking, from most relaxing activity to most stressful, is as follows:

  1. Getting a massage
  2. Listening to music
  3. Having a nice dinner
  4. Going on vacation
  5. Watching TV
  6. Working out
  7. Shopping
  8. Spending time with in-laws
  9. Commuting to work
  10. Working

More than half of the respondents to the survey also indicated that that they do not receive massage from their significant other. Also, more women than men indicated that their significant other will give them massages.

“Treating someone to an hour-long, full-body massage is not an easy task for someone who isn’t professionally trained in massage therapy, but even performing 15 or 20 minutes of massage techniques on a loved one can decrease their stress levels and encourage a state of relaxation ,” says Michele Merhib, licensed massage therapist and founder of Elements Therapeutic Massage. “A few key things to remember when giving a massage are to create a soothing environment, use a massage oil made with a natural base and use full, long strokes on each muscle group. Also, it’s important to stand over the person in a way that allows you to provide adequate pressure by leaning into the massage vs. powering through it.”

Elements Therapeutic Massage is the only massage franchise in the United States founded by a Licensed Massage Technician, and has carved a niche in the industry by specializing solely in massage services and providing a highly customized experience to each client. According to a recent study from Trajectory Research of 829 massage recipients, Elements Massage clients reported more than 50 percent higher satisfaction levels than users of independent massage providers or other major franchise massage brands.
